Wisconsin court officials warn of fraudulent e-mail messages

Wisconsin court officials are warning state residents about a recent spate of fraudulent e-mails that say the recipient is required to appear in “the court of Washington.”

Recipients of the e-mail are told to open an attached file, which can infect computers with a virus or malware.

The scam has been reported nationwide since late December.

The Washington Co. (Wisconsin) Clerk of Courts says her office has received more than 100 calls from people who received the e-mail.

The messages are not legitimate.
