-------------------

On October 20, 2013, at 11:15 am, the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of HWY 51/16 and CTH P in the Town of Pacific. This intersection is just one mile south of the City of Portage.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2002 Cadillac was traveling west on CTH P and stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded into the intersection into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet pick-up truck that was traveling north on HWY 51/16.

The operator of the 2002 Cadillac, a 53 year old female from Waunakee, WI was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Columbia County Medical Examiner. The name is being withheld pending notification to family.  A 9 year old female passenger was transported from the scene by Divine Savior EMS to University of Wisconsin Hospital. A dog that was also riding in the passenger vehicle was transported from the scene to a local veterinarian clinic in the City of Portage. Both occupants in the Cadillac were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

The operator and only occupant of the 1997 Chevrolet pick-up was identified as Gene L. Krinke, age 47 of Reeseville, WI. Krinke sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Divine Savior EMS and released. Krinke was not wearing a seatbelt.

Alcohol and speed does not appear to be factors in this crash.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Portage Fire Department, Divine Savior EMS, Columbia County Medical Examiner’s Office and Blystone’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation by the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.
