UPDATE: Employee sentenced to life for killing co-worker

UPDATED Friday, June 27, 2014 ---

PORTAGE, Wis. (AP) -- A Subway employee is sentenced to life in prison for fatally shooting a co-worker behind the sandwich shop in Portage last September.

A judge in Columbia County set parole eligibility for 20-year-old Jordan Scott at 47 years during sentencing Thursday evening. Scott was convicted of killing 22-year-old David Johnson with whom he had a dispute about work issues and Scott's girlfriend.

Scott earlier pleaded guilty to first-degree intentional homicide. The Portage Daily Register says Scott wiped away tears as he sat next to his attorney during the sentencing hearing in a packed courtroom. He apologized to Johnson's family, his co-workers and the community for the suffering he caused.

Judge Brian Pfitzinger said the pain in the courtroom Thursday was "staggering," because both families lost young men with bright futures.
