MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A University of Wisconsin-Madison police captain has been fired amid an internal investigation into misusing equipment.

UW-Madison Police Department spokesman Marc Lovicott released a statement to The Associated Press on Tuesday that was dated March 13. It said Peter Ystenes was fired on March 12 and the agency was investigating misuse of camera and computer equipment.

The Wisconsin State Journal quoted Lovicott on Tuesday as saying that Ystenes was fired after taking inappropriate pictures with department equipment. Lovicott said investigators are trying to contact people in Ystenes' photos. He declined to tell the newspaper if the photos were sexual but said they didn't involve nudity.

Lovicott declined to comment when The AP reached him by email on Tuesday.
