A Middleton area man is accused of trying to bribe a town clerk, to keep his name out of the court listings of the local newspaper.
Authorities say 77 year old Leo A. Ziegler repeatedly told a Town of Springfield clerk that she could keep the change from a $366 municipal fine if his name wasnt published in the Middleton Times-Tribune. The tip was $34. The clerk refused to accept the money.
The municipal citation was for fourth-degree sexual assault. Ziegler was charged in Dane County Court in February with the misdemeanor after he kissed and fondled a female tenant of a Middleton apartment building he owns. Ziegler is also accused of offering to not charge the woman a month's rent if she dropped the charge.
