Madison and Fitchburg Police are investigating four similar west side residential burglary calls.
The calls came in between 8:00 and 11:00 Tuesday night.
Officers responded to a home in the 6200 block of Pioneer Rd. shortly after 8:00 after a resident heard a bang in the rear of his home. His back door was shattered, and he believes he scared off a burglar.
A short time later, Fitchburg officers responded to an attempted burglary in the 5200 block of Meadowood Drive. Someone tried to get into a home through a window, but a resident was inside and the burglar fled.
A third burglary was reported around 10:00 when a couple returned to their home in the 2200 block of Whitney Way. They found their rear door kicked in. Cash, electronics and jewelry were taken.
An hour later, residents of a house in the 5900 block of Riva Rd. returned home and discovered a burglar got in through a rear door.
Madison Police say this is the second cluster of similar burglaries in the same general area in the past few weeks. Officers say residents should report suspicious activity immediately.
