MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ A Madison judge says the state Justice Department must release videos of two training presentations Republican attorney general hopeful Brad Schimel gave to prosecutors but will give the agency a chance to appeal his ruling.
The state Democratic Party filed a records request with DOJ seeking videos of Schimel, the Waukesha County district attorney, from five seminars. The party believes he made inappropriate comments during the presentations.
DOJ officials maintain they can't find three of the videos and releasing the other two would compromise victim privacy and legal strategy.
Judge Richard Niess on Thursday ordered DOJ to release the two videos by midday Friday. DOJ attorneys say they'll probably appeal, though. Niess said if they file the appeal before the Friday deadline he'll stay his mandate pending a hearing Monday.
