DARLINGTON - A southwest Wisconsin hospital is reporting more than a decade's worth of financial statements for former patients were inadvertently sent to some third parties.
Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington said Friday that roughly 8,000 notices were erroneously sent by the vendor that generates their billing statements. While the statements did not contain patient information like social security number, birthdate or type of treatment, it did contain the patients name, account number, dates of service, charges associated with the services, and whose responsible for paying.
The error was detected on August 6, immediately prompting an internal investigation. A letter was sent out to those affected patients. Anyone who was not reached by mail should call 1-877-615-3759.
