The Grant County Sheriff's Office says they received a call Thursday at 5:32 p.m. about a two vehicle crash on Hwy 133 about half a mile north of Clauer Ln. in Potosi Township.
Authorities say the caller told them there was a car and a semi-truck involved and one of the vehicles was on fire.
Investigators tell us a red 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo being driven by 17-year-old Liza Johnson of Potosi, was headed north on Hwy 133 coming up the hill north of Clauer Ln. while a 2004 Mack Semi being driven by 44-year-old Carlos Martinez of Aurora, Illinois was going south and just starting down the hill.
They say Johnson traveled across the center line into the south bound lane. The two vehicles collided and the semi-truck started on fire. Both vehicles were severely damaged.
Martinez was transported to Grant Regional Health Center and was later taken by Med Flight to UW-Madison Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Johnson was extricated from her vehicle by the Potosi Fire Department and transported from the scene by Med Flight to UW-Madison Hospital where she remains in stable condition.
Authorities say the crash is further being investigated by the Grant County Sheriff's Office assisted by a Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstructionist and State Patrol Inspector.
