Driver Arrested in Green Co. Crash That Killed 10-Year-Old

MONROE, Wis. (AP) -- The driver of a pickup truck is under arrest in a Green County crash that killed a 10-year-old boy.

Sheriff's deputies say the 21-year-old Monroe man was driving drunk when he crossed the centerline on Highway 59 and hit an oncoming minivan Monday evening in the town of Albany. A passenger in the minivan, Michael Iverson, was killed. His dad, who was driving the minivan, and two siblings who were also passengers were injured.

The pickup driver and a passenger were also hurt.

The Stoughton Area School District says Iverson was a fifth-grader at Kegonsa Elementary School.

A 10 year old is dead and two other children hurt after a car accident in Green County. The crash happened just after 5:40 p.m. on the STH 59 at Broughton Road.

Police say a pick-up truck traveling west crossed over the center line and hit the mini-van traveling east. The 21 year old driver Trevor McGuire of Monroe suffered non-life threatening injuries. His passenger has minor injuries and refused treatment.

The driver of the mini-van, 35 year old Matthew Iverson of Stoughton, was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He was traveling with three children ages 7,10 and 13. His 10 year old passenger died at the scene from injuries sustained due to impact. The 13 year old and 7 year old were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. All passengers were wearing their seat belts.

Police say McGuire was drinking alcohol prior to the crash. He was arrested and charged with Reckless Driving and Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle.
