Dane Co. Sheriff's Office warns residents of phone scam

The Dane Co. Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a recent phone scam.

The 911 Center reports that they received several calls from Madison citizens about the scam Monday.

A man calls residents claiming to be a Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office. The man, who uses the name William Hall, goes on to say that the resident neglected to report for jury duty. The caller goes on to say to avoid arrest, the citizen has to go to the nearest Walgreens and wire a payment to him within the hour.

Sheriff officials want citizens to know this is a scam.

If you received one of these calls, call the 911 Center's non-emergency line: 608-266-4948
