MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ A Wisconsin winery has broken ground on its new $4 million distillery facility.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports that the construction of the 25,000-square-foot distillery owned by Wollersheim Winery began Tuesday. It will be connected to the winery's existing fermentation building near Prairie du Sac.
The distillery building will house two stills and an aging room for 20 large fermentation tanks and 400 oak barrels. It will also include a retail space.
Philippe Coquard owns Wollersheim Winery with his wife. He says the distillery will focus on locally sourced and grown ingredients to produce its brandy, whiskey, absinthe and gin.
Construction is expected to be complete next summer.
