2 Wisconsin teachers unions delay merger vote

MADISON, Wis. (AP) _ Wisconsin's two largest teachers' unions are delaying an April vote on merging.

The Wisconsin Education Association Council and the American Federation of Teachers-Wisconsin have been talking about merging for more than a year as membership declines due to the state law that took away nearly all collective bargaining for public workers.

The groups issued a statement Wednesday saying feedback from members seeking more information led to the delay in a vote.

Both unions say a committee will be created to provide more information about what a new merged organization would look like and how it would operate.

The unions say membership has dropped about 30 percent since the collective bargaining law known as Act 10 took effect in 2011.
