Not guilty plea entered for former officer charged with sexual assault of child

A Dane County judge Thursday entered not guilty pleas on behalf of a former Mount Horeb police lieutenant charged with repeated sexual assault of a 14-year-old runaway who moved into his Madison apartment.

Dane County Circuit Judge Ellen Berz entered the pleas for 44-year old Dennis Jenks, who also is charged with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a child and 24 counts of possessing child pornography.

In July, the former music director of a Middleton church pleaded no contest to sexually assaulting the same Beloit boy, who at the time was living with Jenks.

48-year old James "Alex" Gillespie of Port Charlotte, Fla., who was music director of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Middleton, is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 4.
